nice, but I am getting kinda tired of these “revolutionaries” who think that by talking big they’re achieving something besides just talking. Not that I really have any right whatsoever to bitch about their inactiveness though.

you should do a bit more research, DWG – Zach’s donated MUCH time and resources (hands on) to education in Mexico and worker’s rights. Sometimes, it’s just your job to be the mouthpiece and stir the hornet’s nest, you know? Not everyone can carry the sword…

  3. dumbwhiteguy says:

The guy has organized a lot of rallies and whatnot, and has raised some money (which is a lot more than I’ve done) but overall he’s spent most of his time talking to other talkers, doesn’t really get a whole lot done.

  4. admin says:

what’s your definition of ‘get stuff done’? He took a year off to go and teach children in underprivileged Mexican villages.

  5. dumbwhiteguy says:

Like help get rid of the Republican majority (which they really weren’t helping along), instead of continuing this whole college kid revolutionary thing they’ve got going on, which is coincidentally one the things that the reps get elected on apposing, since everybody hates student protesters. And the teaching kids in Mexico bit was nice, but there are far more effective ways for someone with that large of a fan base to help.

  6. Saggio says:

Not everything is about the United States.

  7. admin says:

    Damn tootin’…

  8. dumbwhiteguy says:

No, but a good chunk of it is. And if you don’t believe me than explain to me how while the vast majority of Europe was opposed to the war we managed to get England, Norway, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Portugal, and the Netherlands to help support it. And on the subject of Mexico, we just rigged their elections so that Calderon got elected. Hell, even your PM is Bush’s bitch.

And secondly when did I say that it was, asides from the above paragraph.

  9. admin says:

    LOL

    I love you guys….

  10. Saggio says:

Unfortunately, you happen to be wrong, again. The United States is just one country, which thinks it’s the best in the world in all things. Just because Zack de la Rocha went and took direct action in a country that isn’t the United States does not mean that his actions were or are meaningless. On the contrary, they are admirable and should be recognized as such.

Moreover, you, of all people, being an American citizen, should recognize that just because a country’s government says or does one thing that does not mean that the population and citizenry as a whole agree with that action, or even condone it. By your logic, I should be able to blame you – personally – for the American foreign policy snafus over the last century. That’s just absurd.

  11. dumbwhiteguy says:

Thank you for completely missing my point.

I never said they were meaningless, I just said there are better ways of him using his time, that’s all. I also said that the majority of the citizens in those countries disagreed with U.S. foreign policy, or did you miss the “the vast majority of Europe was opposed to the war” part.

  12. dumbwhiteguy says:

Oh yeah and Brooke, it wouldn’t be BS if we didn’t mindlessly debate absolutely everything.

  13. Saggio says:

I’m not the one missing the point.

You said that you thought he could be spending his time better elsewhere, specifically trying to “get rid of the Republican majority.” Then you go on to say that his “college revolutionary” crap doesn’t do anything, and imply that it’s stupid and lame and a waste of time.

Essentially, you are criticizing this one single activist for not doing things the way you think they should be done. That is lame and stupid and a waste of time. Get a clue, man.

  14. dumbwhiteguy says:

*wonders how you managed to get that out of what I said*

Oh well I guess I’m just too stupid to understand the inner workings of an utter genius such as yourself.

    But on to the point.

Than prove that this “college revolutionary” crap actually does work. And secondly I just said that there are better ways of him using his time than trying to rally the student monkeys.

  15. Saggio says:

Honestly, dumbwhiteguy, I don’t even know why you care so much about Zack de la Rocha or what he does. He’s just another musician with leftist political beliefs that doesn’t like the current state of American political discourse. It’s not that big of a deal, and I haven’t yet figured out why you seem so offended by his choice to go to Mexico rather than attempt to fix the broken mess that is the US political system.

I can certainly tell you right now, that if I was in the United States, I most certainly wouldn’t vote for any of the established parties and I wouldn’t play the games they play. Canada certainly has it’s share of problems when it comes to our political representatives, but there is a system of accountability built in that doesn’t seem to exist in the United States. Moreover, the level of discourse in the United States seems to be so much lower than in the rest of the world, even in Canada (excluding these last two Parliaments) – the whole thing is a fucking farce. I still can’t understand why that Democratic candidate for President in ’04 somehow lost because he screamed. Seriously, what is up with that shit?

  16. dumbwhiteguy says:

The answer to that is easy. Because you don’t have a choice in playing the games they want to play. You have to go along with them if you actually want to change anything. And secondly I don’t really care so much about Zach as I do about all these college kids who do nothing but go to rallies and post on gnn and say that everyone else besides them is completely full of shit that makes up a large portion of the rage fanbase.

  17. Saggio says:

You always have a choice. A large portion of the American electorate actually choose to not vote or have anything to do with the political system. What’s the voter turn out rate? 50%? 60% on a really good day?

Who cares about the idiots who post on GNN and rant and rave? No one is forcing you to read it.

  18. dumbwhiteguy says:

Hence the reason you have to go along with it.

But the problem is that those people on GNN represent a good portion of the left, and Zach for that matter. Hence my unlikingness of them.

  19. dumbwhiteguy says:

I think that would have sounded better if I didn’t use hence in the last sentence.

  20. Saggio says:

You’re joking, right? You think that a “good portion” of the left is represented by GNN? Just like a “good portion” of the right is represented by http://www.godhatesfags.com? Way to strawman.

  21. dumbwhiteguy says:

You haven’t been to a lot of these rallies have you?

  22. dumbwhiteguy says:

And secondly, minus there whole stance on the soldiers and America being the worst country on the face of the Earth and what not, yes they do. And by good portion I don’t mean all, I just mean that there are lots of people out there that would agree with them.

  23. admin says:

I know the guys who run GNN…they’d probably be the first to admit that they’re only a SLICE of the left…a very thin but VOCAL slice.
