Uh-oh…

(posted by tobias)

“President Bush, without so much as issuing a press statement, on May 9 signed a directive that granted near dictatorial powers to the office of the president in the event of a national emergency declared by the president…. When the President determines a ‘catastrophic emergency’ has occurred, the President can take over all government functions and direct all private sector activities…”

… hmmm…. The president, by a unilateral directive of his own signing, can now declare a state of emergency and do pretty much ANYTHING HE WANTS, including SUSPENDING ELECTIONS INDEFINITELY, without any recourse to or oversight by congress. So let’s see… a terrorist action on home soil… at just the right time… but hey, come on, how likely is that? Err, anyone want to put money on it? My guess is that the folks with real money already have.

I hate it when my precognition ends up being right.

I felt this way back in 1999.

    And you know what?

I hope he does try to pull this off with the most coincidental timing possible so people can see his administration’s true colors.

    I really do.

    Punk.

Maybe this will lead to a 22 year-old, verdette half-esper who will save us from Emperor Bush.

Props to dumbwhiteguy for having the nerve to do that.

Must be the 100 plus hours I’ve put into FFVI Advance. 🙂

Sadly, the clock stops at 99:59 and the Step counter isn’t very good metric for the duration of a file.

I wonder when Bush will find his Kefka..

And no, it isn’t Rove or Cheney. :p

Yeah, and? Have you read the constitution lately? The president already had the power in the event of a catastrophy to use distatorial powers and furthermore cannot be impeached or otherwize made to leave office.

What you’re talking about is martial law which states that the President can suspend Habeas Corpus in the event of a national emergency. He could never suspend elections indefinitely and do a lot of what this article is saying.
