Dark Nemesis Revealed!!!

May 20th, 2007

A Killing Joke indeed…

Heath Ledger’s serial-killer Joker in Chris Nolan’s BATMAN: Dark Knight has apparently been uncovered in a nifty bit of viral marketing via the gremlins at WB.

There is much to consider here. Comments on anything related to my second-favourite comic icon of all time are welcomed and goddamn encouraged

Are they going to steal the 2008 election? No, they’ve already stolen the 2008 election.

Well here’s a cheery little wander through the dark and cynical back hallways of Democracy-As-Usual in the good ol’ US of A:

http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/interviews/061

… just in case anyone’s feeling that things can only get better with the GOP on the ropes everywhere you look and Bush’s abysmal tenure at the Oval Orifice grinding painfully to a close… make no mistake, after everything they’ve done to defile the constitution and claim unprecedented unitary power for the executive branch, they have absolutely no intention of handing it over to anyone else… ever, if Karl Rove has anything to say about it… and unfortunately, he does.

There MAY still be time to do something about this, but the hour is very late, people, and complacence is complicity.

An Auspicious Month…

May 17th, 2007

Saga Dawa

Saga Dawa is the holiest month of the Tibetan calendar.
Three of the most important events in Buddha’s life took place on
Saga Dawa Duchen, the full moon day of the fourth month; namely,
his birth, enlightenment, and passing into Parinirvana.

Tibetan Buddhists regard the full moon day of Saga Dawa as the
anniversary of these three great events. According to Buddhism, one’s
rebirth begins with conception. The birth of Buddha Shakyamuni is
recognized as this day of his conception. On his thirty-fifth birthday,
Lord Buddha attained full and complete enlightenment under the Bodhi
tree in Bodhgaya. On his eightieth birthday, he passed into Parinirvana
in Kushinagar. This is why Saga Dawa is regarded as most holy.

Saga Dawa is also known as “bum gyur dawa” in Tibetan, meaning “the
month which multiplies by 100,000”. Whatever wholesome or unwholesome
action one does during this month has a 100,000 times stronger effect
than at other times. Therefore, during Saga Dawa, it is important to
refrain from harmful or unskillful action, and it is a most beneficial
time to practice dharma, do prostrations, make offerings, recite
prayers, feed and save animals, follow a vegetarian diet, and
accumulate merit by all manner of skillful actions.

Saga Dawa extends from May 16th until June 14th, 2007, in the current
Female Fire Pig Year 2134 of the Tibetan Calendar. Tibetan months
begin one day after a new moon, and end with the following new moon.
May 16 was the first New Moon.

Chillin’ in the City of Angels…

May 13th, 2007

…with an actual Angel! (if you scope the Facebook or MySpace haunts, there’s some photographic proof 🙂 )

I’m trying to view this as a week of R & R (though there are certainly a few work-related threads to be tied or snipped) – luckily the weather and the schedule so far are accommodating:

– MONDAY: chill by the pool
– TUESDAY: some low-key meetings in the ‘Wood.
– WEDNESDAY: Disneyland!!!
– THURSDAY: connecting with the Kirb’…
– FRIDAY: new work-related pals for D&D (no Dice…just dinner and drinks 😉 )
– SATURDAY: rock ‘n’ roll at the original ROXY!!!

Sounds like a pretty groovy week to me…but if any of you have some suggestions to add to the pile, feel free – that’s what this whole Web 2.0 thing is for 😀

I saw it last night.

Thank you, David.

A desperate, haunted, twisted, nightmarish, transformational, revelatory thank you.

Friday Link-o-Rama!

May 3rd, 2007

With the spruce up on the bloggy-blog (notice the changes, especially the links to the right?), and the long-awaited implementation of spam-reducing measures both here and on the forums, it seemed like a good time to parade out some url treats for the saintly faithful:

– A fresh interview with Megacon pally James Curcio of Join My Cult was just posted over at counterculture haven Alterati. Interesting questions for a change – it’s much more fun to yap with folks who only moonlight as ‘journalists’.

– Helping with a couple of intriguing side-projects right now…very cool stuff which you’re sure to hear more about in the coming months. Here’s one of the fellows involved – the other we can’t link yet, ’cause he’s famous and might sue if we blow our load too soon. Seriously. 😛

– More than a few of us are addicted to the Facebook crack. Do a search and you’ll find Saints-a-poppin’ on the internets. Much more fun than MySpunk…even if it is a CIA info-harvest.

– Loving LOST again…the recent Locke ep gave me much emotional wood. And Whedon’s BUFFY Season 8 comic is getting richer every issue – it’s like watching your favorite weekly TV serial…but monthly…and with papercuts.

– Ian’s in England for a week visiting his Papa…we think. It’s not really linkable news…but we’re still not sure that he actually made it there. You see, he was one of the first to sign up for a deeply discounted flight on a wacky Scottish airline that nobody had ever heard of before. I’m betting that the inflight entertainment consists of broken bottles and chain-smoking soccer hooligans. Let’s just hope the pilots are sober enough to aim for the country with all crumbling castles and nasty public toilets…
