I presume you are referencing the Olympic gameplay, where they beat Canada. And to that I can say: good thing I'm not in Canada anymore.

I only have one thing to say to this: U...S...A! U...S...A! U...S...A! Yeah, for this I'm going there 'cause it's too damn funny not to do anything other than chant U...S...A! over and over again.

Hmm. A bit late to the conversation. Are you a real person, or a spambot?

They lost to Canada in the game that actually mattered, though.

okay. i'm going back to my theory that our spambots are merely the result of trolling, more so than black-hat seo methods.

Pardon me, but I didn't actually understand this. Could you explain again? And are you referring to how this jerk of a spambot has swiped the name "brokensaints" (where Brooke uses "brokensaint")?

The IP address (65.49.2.180) doesn't resolve to anything useful.

just the fact that the posts are becoming more and more human, and that whoever this is is actually starting to respond to us, rather than just committing drive-by-spamming.

i asked something unspeakable, generally speaking, "are spambots conversing with spambots?"

and brokensaints, a now frequent "poster", responded with 's and 's, implying the possibly mocking sentiments of surprise and coolness. surprise, presumably at my previous statement, which he has evidently acknowledged; coolness as if to express his self-satisfaction at my own sentiment and/or his own actions.

there is no benefit gained from "humanizing" a spambots posts to this extent, or at least very little. the energy put into it far outweighs the gain in this case. even the spammer must surely realize, his posts will be deleted anyway. secondly, at least half of his posts simply cannot be the result of clever programming alone, as at least half his posts denote human intelligence, anecdotally shown in my previous paragraph. I can lurk for more evidence to support this theory, if you wish.

finally, it is unlikely that multiple people are orchestrating this takeover. i have no hard evidence for this, other than one person seems like the simplest answer, but my gut is talking to me, dammit, and i'm gonna listen. in conclusion, i propose something radical:

it is one person, who happened across our forum, mistook it for dead, and proceeded to open up a can of spam-fu. when suddenly moderators burst from the shade, and hit his spambots with their ban grenade. he then decided it would be more entertaining to just fuck with us, while occasionally sprinkling a genuine spambot post here and there to throw off the scent.

I know how annoying it is for one person to write a long post, and then have another person come by and just say "nah." Nonetheless, my reaction here begins with "nah."

Zenphobia (who I presume is deleting the spam I don't catch) might be able to reference other posts, but the posts I've seen don't seem to be changing in quality. I commented each time I saw spam that looked human to me.

Here:

"Nah." There are lots of posts where we talk about spam responding to spam, and hitting or missing those could happen at random during a general necro-spamming. Further, you have no way of knowing that this post was created by hitting "reply" to your particular one. And that sequence of smilies, if made by a human, could have been arranged (much) better if it were supposed to denote what you suggest. Smiley-spam is nothing special.

Likewise, as I said, I would not argue "at least half his posts denote human intelligence." The few times I've checked for "humanity," I just got around to deleting all the spam (from a now-silent spambot) in a few days anyway. If there is a human involved, that human is doing very little.

I hate Boston right now.

And what's with this "USA!" garbage? When the hell did Boston represent all of America, especially when most of your players are Canadian?
