I played this game about a year or so ago, maybe a little bit longer than that. Needless to say, being a Lewis Carroll fan that I am, I absolutely fell in love with the game, as well as the story, the characters, and its dark and entrancing setting.
I've been hearing for a while about the production of the film. Since a lot of people here may have some idea as to what I am talking about, I thought that it would be fitting that I make a topic about this first. I'm also curious if anyone else around here has ever played the game, and ever thought it was going to be a movie.
Surprisingly, I sure as hell didn't.
But I'd like to look more into that either way.
From what I heard at first, it was going to be animated. I was a little bit dumbfounded by the idea, what with the game's twisted violence and all (not like that's ever stopped anyone though, right?), but...okay. Then I found this little article here:
http://aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=20525
All right, so it's not an official piece, but it does raise some pretty good questions:
Sarah Michelle Gellar...as Alice....
So crazy it just might work! |

Hopefully it doesn't turn out as bad as most game-into-movie- movies. _________________ OoiTY

I hope the upcoming Prince of Persia movie doesn't fall into that curse either.

I reckon they should get someone actually young to play Alice. SMG rules and all, but pass for lovely young Alice she can not.
Also, if they do actually go ahead with the film, they're really gonna have to go all Sky Captain with it because I don't see how they could find decent locations for practically any of the levels from the game. _________________

Maybe hand out some bad shrooms at the door to the theater? _________________ "The good writers touch life often. The mediocre ones run a quick hand over her. The bad ones rape her and leave her to the flies."

First, yes. I even played a piece from the soundtrack for all the happy people in the last karaoke session. (Thank you, Mindless!)
Second, yes. I don't know if you visited the web site and/or did any research when Alice was new, but there was a curious (and curiouser) deal going on. American McGee, apparently, showed the trailer that he made for Alice (you have seen the trailer, right?) to some movie producer-type person to see if there was any interest in taking the idea in that direction. After watching it, the producer said "We are making this movie!" Naturally, his lawyers immediately jumped up and said "Waugh! Not without due consideration! Blah blah blah! Et cetera! At least hold a (insert type of adjective for what goes on backdoors in movie production) meeting first!" and so, of course, the producer's passion was tempered. "Okay, okay," he said, and quietly stood there for a moment with his eyes closed. Then he opened them and said "Meeting adjourned. We are making this movie."
Yup. However, for all I knew, such plans went the way of "American McGee's Oz" and this other project named "Grimm."

P.S.: I still haven't actually finished playing Alice, by the way. Wrist problems. _________________ "As a weekend hobby, I'm writing my autobiography. I'm having to do lots of research." --Terry Pratchett. |

Or the Doom movie, for that matter..
As fun as it would be to watch the Rock Bottom performed on a Cyberdemon. _________________ - Kolian |

I think it goes without saying that the Doom movie is going to blow a large amount of ass.
The Rock is playing the main character...yeah...nuff said... |

Nevermind. You were right the first time.

He isn't actually 'THE' main character (despite what he said on the Daily Show). I think he might be the 'Marine' from the Doom series, sort of, but the real main role is a different character altogether.
Besides, the Rock has been alright in the films he's done - the scripts were more to blame than his acting. With a decent action pilot, he could redeem himself. _________________ - Kolian |

True, true. Although the movie itself wasn't that great, the Rock was pretty hilarious in Be Cool. _________________ "I told the people of my district that I would serve them as faithfully as I had done; but if not ... you may all go to hell, and I will go to Texas"

That game has some of the most incredible storyline branches and stunning music of any game I've ever played. Dreamlike in the very best sense of the word... no movie could do it justice to my mind, but here's hoping it'll be tolerable |

Yes, but Jordan Mechner himself is writing the script. _________________ "The good writers touch life often. The mediocre ones run a quick hand over her. The bad ones rape her and leave her to the flies."

I also heard of a Far Cry movie.
Two words soured me to this idea: Uwe Boll. _________________

www.uweboll.com sums up the general consensus about him as a director, for those not in the know Terrible man.
The Doom movie is not a Doom movie at all in that it has no links whatsoever to the series of games. |

Untrue. Look, do you really think a movie about one guy whipping the hell out of three thousand hellspawns would be particularly interesting? _________________ - Kolian |
