Stillness3 demo front cover

Stillness3 – Eine Kleine Zonemusik(larger photo click here)

(posted by tobias)

Hi all, some routine shameless self-promotion here as per usual. I have recently formed a new trio here in Berlin with the intention of playing ambient, spacious, moody stuff (sound familiar?) in the context of a jazz piano trio. But not really jazz. But kind of.

I’d love some feedback about this – to see whether this kind of thing is of interest to anyone other than ourselves as it were… so I’ve posted some demo tracks (entirely improvised, culled from our inaugural jam session) on our MySpace page. I think despite the limitations of the recording environment, they sound reasonably decent and are worth listening to – but as I say, I’d be interested to see if anyone else thinks so…

hope someone hears and enjoys them, anyway… t

Rocksome! This is going on “repeat” on the ol’ stereo for a while. There’s nothing quite like a piano and bass.

    Looking forward to more 🙂

I SECOND THAT, sir! As mentioned in our call, keep having FUN with it. And, it goes without saying, the creepier the better 🙂

BTW, love it when the piano starts to creep to extreme highs and lows – periodic plunking in that range really makes everything seem more intense and urgent.

The drums and bass be super solid – can’t wait to hear a good mix (or, even better, LIVE!)

  3. […] Hey all, tobias here. Just to abuse my posting privileges with some more of my usual shameless self-promotion, I thought I’d mention that Athanasia hasn’t been the only one cooking something up over here. In addition to doing my father-to-be duties, I’ve been in the studio (above, a friend’s mixing suite) working on something I am really pretty proud of as well. I posted a while back about my most recent musical project, Stillness3 (pronounced “Stillness trio” for those in the know), a kind of minimalist jazz/meditative/ambient concept group. I also linked to some samples of our preliminary jam session. Well, now would be a good time to check those out if you haven’t already, since in a very short time (as soon as I finalize the mixes) they will be removed and replaced by samples from our completed first album, which are MUCH BETTER and sound gorgeous and lush due to the stunning 9 foot Steinway concert grand and the fabulous acoustics of the Ballhaus Naunynstr, the lovely old hall we recorded in… and the collection of vintage and premium mics and preamps we assembled for the purpose. I’m really excited about these tracks, folks, and I sincerely hope you’ll dig them too and spread the word far and wide… I’ll post again when they’re up and running! […]
