BUY NOTHING DAY!!!

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Try for the whole WEEKEND…but at least pull those purse-strings tight and shut those wallets for ONE DAY. In a traditionally explosive economic window (US Thanksgiving), such an act can send out some serious waves – a statement that can truly be FELT if enough of us take part.

Another giggle…

Stillness3 CD release… get it for free!

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Hey folks, tobias here, plugging stuff as usual… but at least I’m plugging FREE stuff this time… read on!

First up, my trio Stillness3 is finally ready to release our inaugural album, and we are having a release concert in Berlin (of course) on Dec 7th. I realize most of you aren’t anywhere near Berlin, but still… details on the website. Might record it and try to do a webcast of some sort. We’ll see how it goes.

Second, I have been a busy bee over here – and not only with parenting. I have been implementing what I think is a really simple but powerful idea, which I call Virusonic. What it means to you is that you can get this new CD, in its entirety and at decent resolution, no DRM, for free – with one tiny catch: you have to tell your friends about it. Details are on the website: stillness3.virusonic.com – but the basic idea is that you can hear samples, sign up to get an initial free track, and then grab your unique Referral Link and start spreading it around to friends, post it on your Facebook, whatever; everyone that joins the site from your referral link earns you another free track. Ten referrals gets you the album! (less, actually, as referrals of your referrals count too!)

ALSO… if (for shame!) any of you don’t have the BS soundtrack set, I’m putting that on the system as well – right now only the Selections album is there but the full set will be up shortly – it’s at brokensaints.virusonic.com – go! now! 🙂

Finally, I’m also releasing the solo piano catalog this way as well – including the Broken Saints Concert and continuum:one: tobiastinker.virusonic.com. Again, only selections online right now but I will have the full-length albums uploaded soon, so start spreading the word and before you know it you’ll be FILLING YOUR WHOLE IPOD with my music. Muahahahaha!

Note: you have to register separately for each site. Also, I’m open to comments / suggestions / responses of any kind as the system is in Beta as it were. I have lots of ideas for future development but I’d love to hear what people think of the basic concept.

Note 2: there is another solo piano release in the pipeline, and more electronic/acoustic stuff on the way as well. Busy busy busy!

The Shock Doctrine

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

Press play above to view The Shock Doctrine: A film by Alfonso Cuarón and Naomi Klein, directed by Jonás Cuarón.

When I finished The Shock Doctrine, I sent it to Alfonso Cuarón because I adore his films and felt that the future he created for Children of Men was very close to the present I was seeing in disaster zones. I was hoping he would send me a quote for the book jacket and instead he pulled together this amazing team of artists – including Jonás Cuarón who directed and edited – to make The Shock Doctrine short film. It was one of those blessed projects where everything felt fated.” – Naomi Klein
