Raising a glass to you all
Tobias and Jeff!!!
(Many apologies for being so late with this post, but now that Jeff’s back from his European tour, it was the nice little kick in the pants I needed 😉 Wish I coulda’ raised a fine glass with you on German soil, Freunde!!!)
We’ve yapped about this before, but even if the narrative turns out to be a little wonky, the acting strikes one as wooden, or the pinprick budget shows its seams, I’m still looking forward to MIRRORMASK. With this good film and this GREAT film as vital cogs in my childhood memory machine, it’s good to know that someone’s still up for a fairy tale romp with a moral attached. I was so hopeful after a wave of strong children’s films in the 90’s, but now all we have is Muggle-brand fun.
Go support the indies, mates…raise a flag or a fist for good ol’ fashioned storytelling (and be an evangelist if you like it – it’s the only way stuff on the fringes like this ever survives!!!).
This wee contest be simple as pie.
This shot was taken in the lobby of a videogame publisher.
The first person to send us a mail with the publisher’s name – and a solid JUSTIFICATION for their educated guessing – wins an X-BOX game from these fine folks!!!
And for those of you who can’t (or who have no desire to) participate? Well hell’s bells…at least appreciate the life-size Animal, will ya! Sheesh 😀

The highbrow Canuck horror and genre mag Rue Morgue proudly presents their 8th Anniversary Halloween double issue. This is the big 50th mag milestone for our pals back East, featuring not only a plump review of the Broken Saints DVD, but also a cover story on one of the most important literary masters in the history of horror:
“During his short and troubled life, author H.P. Lovecraft shaped the genre perhaps more than any other, and continues to do so decades after his death. This Halloween, Rue Morgue unearths the curious tale of a man whose bizarre narratives are only now being embraced in film, television, and even interactive media….”
Snap it up, chitlins – and you be rollin’ with the Nut!
Storytelling superlatives can’t do the musical exposition, rising action, star-shattering climax, and profound denouement for Sigur Ros‘ live show ANY justice. I’m still trembling. The highlighted new stuff that bookended the show is like GYBE with vocals for criminy’s sake, and the presentation borders on transcendent and otherworldly. Color me INSPIRED. And if you’re a West Coaster, you MIGHT be lucky enough to catch them. Otherwise? More proof that Europeans have alllll the fun 😀

Where am I going?
An irrelevant question
when one has arrived.
A little haze…a little sunshine…and a nice little excursion to a cool burb in Cali rounds out the weekend itinerary here in Arnold’s territory. Though I always get a bit overwhelmed by excursions in the Excited States of America, this particular trip has been a joy – thanks in no small part to my most marvelous forum rat host, Fallen Angel! Breakfasts of fresh fruit and kiefer, artery slamming lunches at Johnny Rockets, culturally-rich afternoon activites, and a particularly naughty evening’s entertainment combine to make Jack one happy working tourist.
Tomorrow it’s a meeting here and here before heading home. Are those fingers still crossed?
Missing you all bunches and overflowing bunches…
