(Couldn’t think of a better spirit-lifter than an impromptu dinner with my long-lost high-school drama-camp nemesis and forum frequenter SOLACE! With her hubby in tow and the Angels in attendance, I was reminded that ‘where’ doesn’t matter – it’s all about the WHO – even if Tommy can’t hear you… 😉 )

    A Sidelined Sicko…

    January 8th, 2006

I came down for some last-minute meetings with our distributor ‘friends’ (which seems like an ill-suited moniker, considering their status as a multinational media conglomerate and part-time Evil Empire…but I digress).

Had a chance to hang with forum fems Fallen Angel, Solace, and Captivating Angel over stiff sangrias and mucho flamenco.

Did a quick tour of the Getty, which impressed me to no end.

But on Saturday, out of the smoggy LA blue, I got sledgehammered with throat problems and a 104 degree fever. Seriously. The original plan was to go and scope this at midnight, but I couldn’t really MOVE, let alone throw toast and TP with any zeal. I forced my kind hostess to shoo, and spent the night pounding raw garlic and alternating between hot baths and cold compresses. The fever finally broke around 3AM…but I’ve still got those nasty spine chills and prickly skin. What a great way to ring in my first real vacation in five years 😛

Will drop another line before I jet out of here on Wednessday for shark-infested shores. Expect some guest bloggers to fill my beach-craving sandals until the end of the month. Hey…change is ‘good’, right? That’s what I keep telling myself as I rotate the sweat-soaked sheets…

    Oh, the horror…the HORROR!!!

  • BS pal and new Rue Morgue Editor-in-Chief Jovanka Vuckovic claims the frame with particular sass and no small dollop of ennui. I think this shot was her photographic ‘apology’ for calling at 6AM on New Year’s Day with vodka-soaked pledges of friendship and true journalistic integrity. If you squint realllly hard, you can make out the quote on her fetching and fearsome stretched-to-capacity T-shizzle:

“The world is indeed comic, but the joke is on mankind.”

That’s why she’ll always be our #1 Lovecraftian latex lass 😉

Hi all… thought I’d drop a line to add my happy new years to Brooke’s, and add a homespun pic (taken by Athanasia) to give an impression of the crazy organic anarchistic chaos that is Berlin on New Years’ Eve. It is really one of those things which, in my father’s memorable phrase, can be experienced but not described; 360 degrees of complete madness, noise and smoke and general absurdity that kind of overwhelms the mind and senses which is thrilling and terrifying and hilarious in equal measure. Highly recommended, if you find yourself in these parts at any point…

A few links – first, to a few more photos from the madness described above. Second, a couple of lists – a top ten and a top twelve – to keep us with the program. Then, some thoughts on the future – some extremely chilling, some downright comforting, and some surprisingly positive – which is not a bad thing to leave you with for now… I hope 2006 is all you want it to be, and holds more pleasant surprises than unpleasant. And, if not world peace, then at least something worth hoping for. More soon…

A telephonic tryst with Tobias amidst rooftop fireworks in Berlin…

It’s not even midnight in Vancouver, Canada – and I’m already celebrating my blessings in the face of the coming year. Some have posed the theory that tonight’s televised BS marathon is a sign of ‘good things’ to come in 2006.

    Maybe.

But for me – to be surrounded by an ever-growing cadre of folks that I can wholeheartedly call friends – the ‘good things’ aren’t off on some distant horizon – they just keep rolling in like the tides…day after glorious day..

    Thank you. All of you.

So with that, let’s rock with truthful tongues, raised fists, and open hearts for the next 365. Just promise to send pictures – we want to share our family with the world! 😀

  • …’nuff said ============>

Happy impending man-made calendrical transition! And folks, I solemnly swear – there will be at least one rambling, ranty, old-school, pimp-free, sellout-absent, blood ‘n’ guts, personal and revelatory post to ring in the first week of the “new year”. But until that promised (and, with my luck, moderately ‘magical’) day? To quote Tycho, the smooth-pated and painfully eloquent Loki of gamers’ Valhalla – Penny Arcade:

    “Buy a Goddamn T-Shirt!”

    Bond.

    Word is Bond.

Not wanting to wound his or her pride with direct contact, I thought that maybe one of you would want to score the karmic one-two by offering a helping hand and landing a rarity. Not sure if it’s still available, but figured this is as good a place as any to do a shout out. Peace – BB)

      BROKEN SAINTS DVD SET

…Autographed by most of the Voice Talent…

This is a great collector’s item for fans of the locally made Broken Saints anime/web cartoon. Great series!

This is the real deal, ’cause I was actually a voice actor on it (with a very small part!).

This is my personal copy (in perfect shape), but make me an offer. These are hard times!
